OSPF Configuration not Accepted when Providing Instance ID

Follow

Issue

OSPF configuration in vtysh is not accepted when entered as router ospf <instance ID>, but no error message appears:

cumulus@switch$ sudo vtysh

Hello, this is Quagga (version 0.99.23.1).
Copyright 1996-2005 Kunihiro Ishiguro, et al.

switch# conf t
switch(config)# router ospf 1

Environment

  • Cumulus Linux, 2.5.x

Resolution

Enter router ospf mode without specifying the instance ID:

cumulus@switch$ sudo vtysh

Hello, this is Quagga (version 0.99.23.1).
Copyright 1996-2005 Kunihiro Ishiguro, et al.

switch# conf t
switch(config)# router ospf

Root Cause

vtysh does not check if the corresponding ospf instance has been configured to start in /etc/quagga/daemons. An improvement to this behavior is being considered in engineering bug CM-5240.
