Properly Shutting Down Cumulus Linux

Running sync ; shutdown -h now is the standard method for powering off a Linux server. For a switch, the standard way is to unplug the cable directly without running the shutdown command. Which way should I follow for a Cumulus Linux switch?

  • Cumulus Linux all versions

The recommended way to shut down Cumulus Linux is to run the following:

cumulus@switch$ sudo shutdown -h now

Then unplug the switch once the shutdown is complete. A sync is performed by /etc/init.d/sendsigs during the normal shutdown process.
