Software Updates and Support Contracts Renewals

What happens when my Software Updates and Support contract expires?

Cumulus Linux is commercially available through a perpetual licensing model that gives you the right to use Cumulus Linux for the lifetime of the Open Networking hardware on which it runs. Combined with the license is termed Software Updates and Support contract.

When your Software Updates and Support contract expires, you are no longer in contract to have access to software updates and upgrades and you no longer have access to our technical support team..

Why should I renew my Software Updates and Support contract?

As a Cumulus Linux user, you should ensure you renew your Software Updates and Support contracts ahead of time in order to receive:

  • All software upgrades, including major and minor software releases.
  • All software updates, including maintenance releases and security patches.
  • Technical support.

How can I renew my Software Updates and Support contract?

You can renew your Software Updates and Support contract by purchasing annual add-on contracts.

  • Cumulus Networks notifies you of upcoming contract expirations via email, up to 90 days before the contract expiration date. Expiration notifications are sent to the point of contact designated as primary in the customer portal as well as to license holders.
  • A real-time full inventory of your licenses along with contract expiration dates are available on the customer portal. This inventory can also be downloaded in Excel format from this portal.

To discuss and renew your Software Updates and Support contract ahead of time:

  • Please contact your Cumulus Networks authorized reseller and provide them with an inventory of the contracts you purchased, including the expiration date, quantity, and type of license(s) for those contracts.
  • You can also log in to the customer portal, select the Software Updates and Support contract you wish to renew and click Renew. This action will immediately notify your Cumulus Networks account manager, who will contact you and assist you in the renewal process.

If we have not received your renewal order at least 30 days before expiration, we will automatically send you an invoice for the renewal, with instructions on payment options. Please ensure you renew on or before the renewal date, as late payment penalties may apply.

What should I do if I don't want to renew my Software Updates and Support contract?

If you do not wish to renew your Cumulus Linux Software Updates and Support contract, please contact your Cumulus Networks account manager as soon as possible, and send us a signed letter of destruction for the contracts you don't want to renew, at least 30 days before expiration. If you don’t know who your account manager is, please email your letter of destruction to licensing@cumulusnetworks.com.

How can I co-term Software Updates and Support contracts?

If you have multiple contracts expiring at different dates, you can extend their term and ensure they all expire at the same time. This is what we call a co-term (short for co-terminable; see the example below). The add-on contract price is prorated based on the number of days the term is extended.

For example, the table below represents a customer's contract inventory, with two different entitlements, expiring on two different dates.

A co-term scenario would involve re-grouping both contracts above and have them expire on the same date.
